A RESOLUTION
COMMENDING THE OUTGOING CITY COUNCILOR AQUILINO Y. CORTEZ JR. FOR HIS
INVALUABLE CONTRIBUTIONS AS A PUBLIC OFFICIAL AND A THREE-TERMER CITY
COUNCILOR OF OLONGAPO FOR CY 2007-2016
WHEREAS, Councilor Aquilino “Jong” Y.
Cortez, Jr, the former Executive Assistant to the
then Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Chairman Richard “Dick”
J. Gordon, was first elected as city councilor in 2007;
WHEREAS, Councilor Cortez,
Jr. graduated from Adamson University with a Bachelor Degree in Arts,
Major in Political Science in 1991. At an early age, he showed his leadership aspiration
as the President of the Political Science Students Society of the
said college and received the award as Most Outstanding Student Leader of the
College of Liberal Arts when he graduated;
WHEREAS, as a three-term councilor, he
chaired the Committees on Traffic Management, Public Safety, Business and
Tourism. He also chaired the Environment Protection and authored landmark
legislations for the said committee such as the resolution expressing the
City’s objection to Coal-Fired Power Plants as an energy source, and the
opposition to the dumping of garbage from Pampanga
to Olongapo’s Landfill. His legislative track record and service
mainly focused on the protection and preservation of the environment and
public’s safety and welfare;
WHEREAS, known for his principles and passion as a
public servant, he is also an active church worker who serves as a lay minister
at the San Roque Chapel, Subic Bay Freeport Zone. With his
God-fearing personality, he authored the city ordinance for the adoption of “#GOD
BLESS OLONGAPO” as one of the City’s slogans and motto;
WHEREAS, believing that
a councilor’s duties and responsibilities go beyond the confines
of the legislative halls, Councilor Cortez, Jr., is one of the
city officials who have done remarkable services in terms of giving
rescue, response and relief in times of calamities to
the Olongapeños.

He is currently a fire and rescue
volunteer, often seen responding to accidents, fires, and flood rescue
operations. His initiatives have been of great help to the management
of the disaster risk reduction in our City;
WHEREAS, aside from the spirit of volunteerism
that lies within him, he also extends his helping hands as the over-all
coordinator of the Olongapo City and Virginia Beach Sister Cities
relations, as well as the student exchange program
between Tallwood High School of Virginia Beach and the City’s secondary
schools;
WHEREAS,
the Sangguniang Panlungsod recognizes
his significant efforts and contributions to the welfare of the City
of Olongapo and gives a heart-warming welcome as the newly elected
City Vice Mayor that will lead the office in its new legislative endeavours;
NOW, THEREFORE, with the unanimous accord of the Members
of the Sangguniang Panlungsod present;
RESOLVED, AS IT
IS HEREBY RESOLVED, by
the Sangguniang Panlungsod in session assembled, to commend, as
it hereby commends outgoing City Councilor Aquilino Y. Cortez
Jr. for his invaluable contributions as a public official and a three-termer
City Councilor of Olongapo for CY 2007-2016.
Let a copy of this
resolution be furnished to Honorable Aquilino Y. Cortez Jr., for his
record.
